WPL Teams 2023

Let’s take a look at the teams of WPL 2023:

Delhi Capitals Women’s IPL Team

Delhi Capitals used the minimum purse of Rs 11.65 crore to buy 18 players in the Women's Premier League inaugural auction. Star batter from India, Jemimah Rodrigues was the biggest buy of the event, with the franchise shelling out a whopping Rs 2.2 crore. Under-19 T20 World Cup skipper Shafali Verma will also be a part of DC's maiden season of WPL. DC also brought Australia women's team captain Meg Lanning, arguably one of the most successful cricketers in women's cricket history.

Gujarat Giants Women’s IPL Team

The Gujarat Giants spent Rs 3.20 crore to acquire the off-spin all-rounder, Ashleigh Gardner, making her the second costliest buy at the first Women's Premier League auction. Beth Mooney, the Australian wicketkeeper, was the next biggest purchase for the franchise and earned a huge paycheck of Rs 2 crore. The franchise spent a grand total of 11.95 crores on their 18-player squad, with Sneh Rana, the highest among the Indian players, being bought for Rs 75 lakh.

Mumbai Indians Women’s IPL Team

At the Women's Premier League, Mumbai Indians made a good purchase with Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur for a mere Rs 1.80 crore, which was not even in the top two buys of the team. In contrast, they paid 10 times the highest salary in the women's Hundred runs by the England and Wales Cricket Board when they got England all-rounder Natalie Sciver-Brunt for Rs 3.20 crore. After engaging in fierce bidding wars with Delhi Capitals and UP Warriorz, Mumbai acquired wicketkeeper Pooja Vastrakar for Rs 1.9 crore.

Royal Challengers Bangalore Women’s IPL Team

At the inaugural Women's Premier League auction in India, Royal Challengers Bangalore emerged victorious in a bidding war against Mumbai Indians to sign the nation's attacking batter Smriti Mandhana for a hefty sum of Rs 3.4 crore. Smriti was the opening player to be auctioned, while Richa Ghosh, an explosive batter, was snapped up by RCB for Rs 1.9 crore. Bangalore also acquired Ellyse Perry of Australia for Rs 1.7 crore.

UP Warriorz Women’s IPL Team

At the first Women's Premier League auction, UP Warriorz purchased 16 players and expended their whole sum of Rs 12 crore- the lowest spent amongst all franchises. All-rounder Deepti Sharma was the second most expensive Indian player, securing a hefty price of Rs 2.6 crore. England's left-arm spinner Sophie Ecclestone was also acquired by Warriorz for Rs 1.80 crore.
